Belgium were eliminated from the 2022 World Cup following their goalless draw with Croatia.

After coming on as a second-half substitute, Romelu Lukaku had several chances to score that he missed.

Croatia, meanwhile, progressed from Group F alongside Morocco.

Belgium's World Cup campaign is over after an underwhelming 0-0 draw with Croatia. With the point they recorded, they missed out on top spot and are now playing in the knockout stages of the tournament. Roberto Martinez's side have left Russia having finished third, behind runners-up Croatia and group winners South Korea. The Belgium coach announced his departure from his post as a result of their disappointing campaign.

Half-time substitute Lukaku headed against the inside of the post when the goal was gaping, flicked wide from close range, chested the ball to the goalkeeper from inside the six-yard box and in stoppage time he went for a loose ball but was beaten to it by Josko Gvardiol

It was a tough day for Belgium, as its team scored zero goals and allowed one. However, the man that scored their first goal of the game broke down at the end. On top of that, only an extremely tight offside review denied Croatia a penalty in the 44th minute. The second period proved to be easier, because Thibaut Courtois didn't have to make any more tough saves.

Reports are emerging that Belgium's behavior on the pitch changed after their humiliating loss to Morocco in their previous group game. Eden Hazard has been dropped as captain, but there are no other significant changes in the team.

At this tournament, Belgium's gifted group of 26 players were 29 or over. Not only did they miss their chance to get the silverware they've been wanting, 11 players announced that this World Cup would be their last.

Croatia needs to improve if they want to reach the final, like last time. They are still in the mix and will have to face off against the winner of Group E's last 16 game. Spain is currently leading that group.
